Rey is an active immigration law practitioner with additional experience in matters relating to arts administration. Formerly a senior associate attorney at a law firm in New York City, Rey's immigration practice predominantly serves artists, athletes and immigrants who have extraordinary abilities in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. As an immigrant, Rey has personally experienced the U.S. immigration system, allowing him to have extensive practical insights for clients seeking immigrant or nonimmigrant status.
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Rey earned his BA LLB from Stellenbosch University and his LLM from the University of Cape Town, graduating top of his class for the latter. Rey went on to teach legal writing as a faculty member at Stellenbosch University Faculty of Law for three years until he was awarded a six-month fellowship at the renowned Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany in 2013. He subsequently published a book, titled Dignitas, concerned with definitions of dignity drawn from select South African defamation court cases. Rey has also been a co-librettist on two operas premiered by Staatstheater Darmstadt in Germany.
Rey assists clients with a wide variety of family and business immigration law matters and passionately advocates on their behalf with federal agencies. Admitted in New York, Rey was formerly a senior associate attorney at a law firm in New York City.
